1. Arrrggghh 2. Ahhhhhh

Went to my first likemind event this morning. About 10 people showed up and everyone was cool. (Pictures.)

We had ad agency people, digital agency people, marketers and consultants. And free coffee.

One issue that almost everyone seemed to have experienced was the notion of Control. As in, "My client fears [name your online environment] because they can't control it." Pretty old news, actually. But the discussion led to a great point:

Negative comments about your brand are an opportunity.

This is an excellent reason why brands and marketers should be blogging and opening up their online portfolios for consumer feedback. If you're a smart, nimble marketer, you welcome the negativity.

Step 1: "Arrrggghh." (They're angry with your brand, and if you're lucky, they'll explain why in great detail.)

Step 2: "Ahhhhhhh." (If the brand plays nice, and engages in real conversation, there's a good chance you'll turn their anger around.)

Perhaps even more important: The entire episode can happen in front of a live audience, and your brand's candor and enthusiasm will be seen and hopefully appreciated by everyone.

Thanks, likemind/min. I'll be back.
