A new gig and simultaneous retirement

The only constant is change, we're told. So embrace the churn. You never know what might result.

For example, this week I begin a new role at BBDO in Minneapolis as VP Creative Director. And at the end of this month I retire as President of the board of the Minnesota Interactive Marketing Association (MIMA) after six years.

Energies abound in all directions--both bittersweet and ebullient.

There's much to be said about the opportunities and legends connected with entering Batten, Barton, Durstine & Osborn's storied outpost here in Minneapolis. Bob Thacker and Nancy Rice's imprint hover, amidst an 83-year relationship with Hormel. Never mind the agency's history in NYC. How many neworks can lay claim to introducing a concept like "brainstorming?" I'm eager to collaborate with the many talents on the 34th and 35th floors of 150 South 5th Street and our clients around the world. We have incredible opportunities ahead of us!

Looking back, I will be forever grateful to people including Kristina, Matt, Kate and others who first suggested then cajoled then buoyed my volunteerism through MIMA. I have received so much more than I gave. The ideas, the situations, the opportunities, the personalities, the connections, the challenges--all have improved my life for the better. I can not suggest a better act than to volunteer. It doesn't matter with whom. But what MIMA has given me I can not repay. My gratitude is very deep for fellow board members, our sponsors, the hundreds (hundreds!) of speakers we've been fortunate to lure on stage, and most important--this robust and curious community. Minnesota has been very kind.

Now, on.
