To each our own.
Last night I checked back into my Pownce account to realize, hey, it's been over two weeks since I've used this service. Yet, I juggle two Twitter accounts (1, 2) almost hourly it seems.
My MySpace page hasn't been updated in a month. But I'm addicted to Facebook.
I've just gotten hooked on flickr...but the new .Mac Gallery function might usurp that addiction.
Still loving Netvibes. Google and Yahoo haven't replaced that valuable experience yet.
What else have I started and now neglect?
Second Life.
Ning.
TagWorld.
Frappr.
Classmates.
Joga.
Pandora. (Feeling regrets about that, but iLike kicks ass. Of course, I haven't updated that lately, either!)
StumbleUpon.
Spock.
I'll try anything once, it seems. But in the end, certain 2.0 technologies and services elicit staying-power with me because of usefulness, simplicity, immediate gratification (a sense of response), and connection. On that last point, it's not just about communing with other users. It's also about being able to use a technology in multiple venues (ala Twitter on FB).
But that's just me. It's totally subjective. Clearly, millions of people can't get enough of MySpace. I suppose I could have become a rabid user of MySpace if the cards had been dealt differently.
What I'm realizing is, my personality warrants a specific set of tools and interactions and feedback. And if efficiency was my main thrust in life, I'd truly understand all this and stop signing up for the next great Web 2.0 idea. But that isn't going to happen.
